Executive Mathematics

Author: Yves Nievergelt

The red ink informed Jim Washam that he had made a $400 mathematical error. Washam, a bank vice-president, was glad that the mistake was only on a test in his mathematics class, but he wished to improve his mathematical skills so as to avoid such errors in future courses. He belongs to a group of select executives who pursue a demanding managerial career and study mathematics evenings and weekends as preparation for entering graduate school in business administration.
