GAIMME Time: Getting Away from One Right Answer
Author: Ariana Mendible
This month’s column is guest authored by Dr. Ariana Mendible. She is a talented rising star whose interdisciplinary research and teaching include the complementary tools of mathematical modeling, engineering design, and data science. Although not explicitly stated as such in the GAIMME Report, the paradigm break away from “One Right Answer” underscores the tenets of the GAIMME Report, as we seek to give students autonomy and empower them to develop and justify their own answers to questions. I have invited Dr. Mendible to bring a fresh perspective and to share her approach to help her calculus students break away from the “One Right Answer” paradigm, offering GAIMME Time readers a practical application of GAIMME in situ.
